Summer Associate/Law Clerk Program
Wingert Grebing is proud of its comprehensive Summer Associate/Law Clerk Program, which recruits and trains students who have completed their second year of law school to work in a dynamic and fast-paced legal environment. Law students hired by the firm are employed full-time between May and August and are afforded significant responsibility, including client and attorney interaction. Typical tasks include the preparation of research memoranda, pleadings, correspondence and written discovery, all under the tutelage of experienced attorneys. The firm’s law clerks are encouraged to observe court appearances, depositions, mediations, arbitrations and trials. Many of the responsibilities delegated to the firm’s law clerks are the equivalent of work performed by new associates.
Historically, the firm’s Summer Associate/Law Clerk Program has been the principal means to identify and recruit associate attorneys. Many of the firm’s current partners and associates began their careers as law clerks with the firm.
A partner supervises the program, participates in on-campus interviewing and coordinates the training of the firm’s summer associates. Law clerks are not assigned to a specific attorney, practice area or group, but are encouraged to challenge themselves by working with each of the attorneys at the firm. This enables our summer associates to experience both transactional and litigation-related work, as well as different practice styles.
The work of each summer associate is evaluated on a project-by-project basis by the assigning attorney. The partner who supervises the program conducts a formal evaluation at the mid-point of the program and at its conclusion.
Wingert Grebing seeks eligible candidates who wish to enhance their skills by working with some of the most experienced and highly qualified attorneys and mentors in Southern California. Relevant considerations include class rank (top 1/3 preferred), moot court or mock trial experience, and law review or other selective journal writing or editing.

An Associate’s Story
The opportunity for “experience” is one of the most important considerations when looking for a law clerk position. I wanted to know what types of experiences I would have and how those experiences would shape my legal career. At Wingert Grebing, the law clerk experience is unmatched. You are encouraged to work in all of the practice areas and with all of the attorneys, and are also encouraged to see the law in action by observing depositions, hearings, client meetings and strategy sessions.
