Chris Todd Seeks Seat on State Bar Board of Trustees

Chris is among three candidates vying to represent the Fourth Appellate District on the State Bar Board of Trustees, and the only candidate from San Diego. The Board of Trustees meets throughout the year to debate organizational, policy and professional issues.

Chris’ platform is based upon three core principles: providing greater public access to justice and the judicial system, protecting the public through effective oversight of the legal profession, and working to ensure adequate funding for the California court system. Chris brings a wealth of experience to his candidacy, including stints as the President and Treasurer of the San Diego County Bar Association.

A litigator for more than 25 years, Chris has worked his entire career at Wingert Grebing. He focuses his practice on civil trial work, including business disputes, real estate and public contract litigation, insurance matters, and personal injury cases.

Voting is underway and is open to licensed California attorneys whose address of record with the California State Bar is within the Fourth Appellate District (Imperial, Inyo, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties). Ballots must be cast by mail or online by July 2, 2012.

Deborah Dixon Elected to Lawyers Club Board of Directors

One of eight candidates for five seats on the board of directors for Lawyers Club of San Diego, Deborah emerged victorious in an election held May 2nd. Lawyers Club of San Diego seeks to advance the status of women in the law and in society, and is a specialty bar association comprised of female and male attorneys, judges, law students and others in the San Diego community who share the group’s interests and goals. Lawyers Club is the largest Bar organization in San Diego, other than the San Diego County Bar. Lawyers Club is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2012.

Deborah’s practice includes the defense of attorneys and other professionals, as well as business and complex litigation. She is a 2006 graduate of the California Western School of Law, where she remains an Adjunct Professor of Trial Skills. Deborah also serves on the board of directors for San Diego Defense Lawyers and in other leadership positions within the San Diego legal community.

Jim Mangione Ascends to Leadership Position with San Diego County Defender Organizations

Jim Mangione has been elected Vice-President of the Board of Directors for the San Diego County Defender Organizations, which is the umbrella group for Appellate Defenders Inc., and Federal Defenders of San Diego, Inc.

Appellate Defenders, Inc., is a non-profit law firm which administers the appointed counsel system for the Fourth Appellate District of the California Court of Appeal. Appellate Defenders, Inc., strives to improve the quality of indigent representation on appeal, and also works to assist the Court of Appeal, Fourth Appellate District, in administering criminal and juvenile delinquency appeals by indigents, as well as civil appeals by indigents in certain areas.

Federal Defenders of San Diego, Inc., is a private, non-profit corporation that represents indigent persons accused of federal criminal offenses. The organzation is independent from the local federal judiciary and is funded by a sustaining grant awarded by Congress under the Criminal Justice Act.

Eric Deitz Presents Webinar on Estate Planning and Digital Assets

On February 23, 2012, Eric and co-presenter Pablo Palomino, Esq., led a Continuing Legal Education webinar addressing the need to include digital assets in an estate plan. Webinar attendees learned more about what constitutes a digital asset (e.g., online bank accounts, social media accounts), the value they have and how to include them in an estate plan. Eric’s portion of the program focused specifically on ethical issues unique to digital assets and offered best practice solutions to practitioners.
